Stuart (El Camera Mano) and I were recently commissioned to do a series of short detecting videos which would then be placed on “youtube” by Nigel at Regtons. It involved the use of 17 different detectors, so it was quite obvious from the beginning that the “Garrett Aces” format that we employed previously wouldn’t work. It would […]

Just a few words about what has been happening lately.
I was all set to do the training day last Sunday near Newark when the organiser (Widget) had to go into hospital for a pretty serious operation a couple of weeks beforehand. So for those that have bought online, it should be happening some time in […]

Go on admit it, the headline grabbed you didn’t it? I had better explain that this is the latest of the Fireman Bob episodes and it will all unfold as the story is told.

I’ve recently received an e-mail from a mature Italian student resident in Norwich, who is interested in meeting detectorists in that vicinity, whether it be an individual or a club. The guy (Gian). speaks perfect English (better than me at any rate)and has detected in his home Country with his Tesoro euro-sabre; can anyone out […]

I thought this deserved to go on the Blog rather than in the comment section. (I couldn’t get it to fit in there anyway!)
Hi John, just a quick note to say thanks for all the advice and info gleaned off here, the book, the DVD and the training day (Petersfield)
I have spent this Christmas […]

This is going to be an on-going list of all the characters that you are likely to meet when involved in the harmless activity known as metal detecting. I have already given a name to the “ask it, take it, but can’t be bothered to think about it brigade”, (microwave detectorists) in a previous blog.
The […]

Is Metal detecting becoming devalued by instant consumerism?

Let me explain what I mean by this by telling you how it has always been for me and a lot of other people and then putting forward the argument for “new way”.
I heard a famous comic asked in an interview recently, “What is needed to become a great […]

My mate Prickles asked what “blog” stood for, apart from a “Bloody Load Of Garbage”. I didn’t have an answer for him so I said we would settle for that.
It’s a bit like a diary, where I write down what’s been happening, or my thoughts on certain aspects of detecting practices and […]

I find it amazing the number of times that I read on different forums around the world about detectorists claiming that they can find coins under nails. I read one recently where he altered the number of filters on his machine and hey presto, it was as if the iron wasn’t there!
