Drove out to see how my “Celtic goldfield” was doing, as it was being rough ploughed the last time I saw it a couple of weeks ago. Talk about your jaw dropping on to your knee- caps, the farmer was just finishing seeding it with sugar beet; the one crop that I’m not allowed on when seeded!

What about the other field with roman on it? “Same thing mate, I seeded that with sugar beet end of last week.”

The worst part is that I had cleared the Celtic site of iron, Using an XP Adventis in all-metal about a week before they ploughed, so that I could give it a crack with a Minelab pulse (gp3500).

I’ve had coins from this site over a number of years and this year was going to make a real effort to find the hoard centre. Well at least I know they won’t be going anywhere and it should be free of iron for later in the year. Just pray there are no night hawkers going around trying the odd fields on spec.
